A bit premature, as a 400 is not even yet available in my area. should sell quickly (i hope) at $225. i cleaned it up, mounted the .325 b&c, comes with extra brand new chain, and tested at 145 psi. i'll be sad to see it go, but a ms400 should be a nice solution to that sadness.

Stihl Ms400 Chainsaws Arbtalk The Social Network For Arborists The 400 is specced by stihl to run a 25" bar, same as my 362. the 362 runs it fine. it's suboptimal, but if you need the length as a one off thing, it's a good match. since the 400 is more powerful than the 362, i don't see why you couldn't push the bar to 28", with the same caveats as the 362 25". that said, long bars on small saws suck. The new ms400 has a magnesium piston for weight reduction. 66cc at just 12.4 lbs for the power head without bar chain. sort of in between the 362 & 462. don’t know much about magnesium, but it must be ok or i can’t see stihl using it in a high reving, stress, machine. jdmich and yellow seat. Red oak cuts alot easier . the 400 works very well with a 20 inch bar setup and can cut a 40 inch tree down very easy . the 500i does have alot more torque and hp plus it oils the chain alot more than a 400 . 500 oils quite abit more per cut than the 400 but also uses a fair bit more fuel per cut . My g372 seems to be good for milling medium sized logs. 160$ delivered minus bar and chain. i’ve got a 261cm for actual work, but this big bastard seems to actually be holding up. it starts better than my stihl actually, as long as you can keep parts from vibrating and falling off it. has anyone here used a ms 400 c m for milling with a rip.
