Spring 2023 Newsletter Ucla Center For Community Schooling The ucla center for community schooling, in partnership with the alameda county office of education, the national education association, and californians for justice, represent california’s state transformational assistance center for the california community schools partnerships program. this ambitious and historic initiative seeks to expand. Rfk ucla community school. on november 1st, the school community welcomed little amal, a 12 foot tall puppet of a 10 year old refugee syrian girl. amal has visited 14 countries around the world since 2021 to raise awareness about the plight of refugees and migrants. Community schools also represent a radical rethinking of who has knowledge, how young people learn, and how teachers teach. to support this rethinking, we are launching a new multi media, open access journal with four features: school cases. teacher scholarship. youth research. policy abcs. these features are intended for a wide, practice. Community schools hold the key. california’s historic $4.1 billion investment in community schools, along with a range of allied initiatives, may hold the key to the deep sense of care, stability, academic support, and services students experiencing homelessness deserve. this new funding initiative brings together a long history of community.

Our work. the ucla center for community schooling is a campus wide initiative to advance university assisted community schools. as stable anchor institutions, universities play a unique role as k 12 community school partners. our research, teaching, and service missions inform and are informed by the work of local schools and communities.
