All we had to go off of were some cool looking trailers. frontiers, on the other hand, is written by ian flynn (the guy that sonic fans have been begging sega to let write the games since 2010). flynn's work on the sonic comics has always been, and continues to be great, so frontiers is in good hands story wise. Maybe not revolutionary, but good enough that pokemon fans at least get a decent game. but sonic frontiers is without a doubt the biggest wild card sega has ever promoted. the pre release reception and marketing has been an absolute roller coaster of strong opinions and emotions swaying dramatically in every direction.

The trailer also shows glimpses of sage, the new character connected to the monsters, who plays a major role in sonic frontiers. the showdown trailer concludes with a shot of sonic gathering all. I don't like the idea of there needing to be tiers of forms. i know we already have hyper sonic (thanks to the split production of sonic 3 becoming two physical cartridges), and darkspine sonic excalibur sonic in the storybook titles as alt forms in those respective story universes, but even then i'd say it's too much.
