With cold atf if bypasses the cooler and hot closes bypass and forces cooler flow. there was a tsb from chrysler about adding a one way check valve in cooler lines. now that little gem can clog and block atf flow throug lines and cooler. it makes for a expensive repair. they can also be installed backwards with same devasatilon.
