Bourbon Review 30 2017 Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year R Bourbon I recently did a blind tasting of the pappy 15, old rip van winkle and george t stagg. whoever is in charge of the latter two is doing a much better job than those on this 15 year release, at least for the 2021 edition. george t stagg had the best palate, followed closely by the old rip, with pappy 15 clearly lagging far behind. Robust caramel, vanilla, and baking spices coming off the glass. perhaps a bit of citrus and oak. the comparison is obvious, but imagine the best sip of weller 12 and old rip had a baby, and that baby was better looking than both parents. taste this could be a technically flawless bourbon. Still in my mind from nose to mouth it is the best brown liquid i have ever had. i've had all the pappy's except the 23yr and i will tell you, some of the knob creek 14 and 15 yr are just as good if not better. as with most other people's opinions the pappy 15 yr tends to be the best but does tend to get a little over oaked depending on the year.
