11am Traditions Jonah On The Run Week 1 Youtube On this week's episode we continue to explore the story of jonah and his flight from god's will and the consequences of disobedience. we talk more in depth a. According 2 kings 14:25, jonah, the son of amittai, was from “gath hepher”. gath hepher’s location was in the northern kingdom of israel. so, jonah had likely suffered because of the assyrians. we know that he survived the assyrians conquering the land, but we don’t know that about any family or friends. Here’s a simple outline to help us understand the flow of the story: chapter 1: jonah flees. chapter 2: jonah prays. chapter 3: jonah preaches. chapter 4: jonah pouts. in chapter 1 jonah is running from god; in chapter 2 he is praying to god; in chapter 3 he is speaking for god; in chapter 4 he is learning about god. Our indifference to the lost is an indicator that we need to return to god. iv. indicator #4: we decide to deliberately disobey god – 1:3. notice the single word, "however." jonah knew exactly what god required – "however." instead of listening, he decided to willfully disobey. disobedience is a gentle word for rebellion.

The message (msg) 1 1 2 one day long ago, god’s word came to jonah, amittai’s son: “up on your feet and on your way to the big city of nineveh! preach to them. they’re in a bad way and i can’t ignore it any longer.”. 3 but jonah got up and went the other direction to tarshish, running away from god. he went down to the port of joppa. It’s a story showing god’s unrelenting grace for undeserving people. and, it’s a story for people like us, people who run from god and need second chances. in this message, pastor miller explores three themes from this story: an uncomfortable call, an unexpected flight, and an unrelenting grace. god was pursuing jonah, and he is pursuing you.
