Joint Prep Study Bristol Medical School Translational Health National joint registry we undertake statistical analysis of the national joint registry , the largest arthroplasty register in the world. this includes survivorship analysis for the njr annual report (pdf, 26.5mb) and the development of the outlier methodology to monitor the performance of orthopaedic implants, units and surgeons. Joint prep study. hip and knee replacements are common operations for patients with osteoarthritis. it is a major operation with a long recovery period. one third to one half of people waiting for hip or knee replacements are frail (physical vulnerable e.g., lower strength and less mobile) and may experience more complications and longer. This study was registered with prospero (crd42018085642). findings: we identified 140 eligible articles reporting 150 series, and included 44 of these series (13 212 total hip placements). national joint replacement registries from australia and finland provided data for 92 series (215 676 total hip replacements). I am also chief investigator on the joint prep study, a nihr rfpb funded feasibility study for a randomised trial evaluating pre operative exercise and nutrition for frail patients undergoing hip and knee replacement. i am joint lead applicant on a rfpb funded project to develop a care plan for patients having knee replacement.
