I Surrender All Sermon By Sermon Research Assistant John 21 15 19 Sacrificing self for service. the narrative of john 21:15 19 presents us with a profound truth the call to serve is a call to surrender. it is a call to lay down our lives for the sake of others, just as christ laid down his life for us. this is not an easy call to answer. Jesus knows your heart, just like he knew peter's. he knew that in spite the struggles, in his heart of hearts, peter truly loved him. he knew the crucible peter endured after denying jesus those three times really had, by the grace of god, changed him. it had set him on a new path. how do we know he knew this.
I Surrender All Sermon By Sermon Research Assistant John 21 15 19 It is the love by which all men will know if we are jesus’ disciples or not (john 13:35). this is the love jesus spoke of when he said in john 14:23, “if anyone loves me, he will keep my word.”. jesus is asking peter what his level of love for him is now. keep in mind the scene in which this is all happening. We come this morning to john 21:15 19. we are in the epilogue of john’s gospel. jesus has died, and he has risen. and after his initial appearances to his disciples, which brought them to faith in his resurrection, he now appears to them one morning on the beach. as we said last lord’s day, in this epilogue jesus is showing his disciples. For many years, i have been thinking about preaching through the greatest sermon that has ever been preached: jesus’ sermon on the mount. it can be read in roughly ten minutes and yet of all the things that jesus taught, this sermon has been written about more, studied more, examined more, and talked about more than anything else that jesus. Formula for commitment (john 21:15 19) peter needed to know how to be committed to jesus. peter had boasted that he would lay down his life for the lord (jn 13:37). yet, that very night peter denied he even knew who jesus was. in the conversation recorded in our text, jesus shows peter how to be committed.

John 21:1. one of the (many) things that i like about the easter stories in the gospels is that there are a lot of them. after jesus is raised from the dead, he keeps appearing to the disciples, in all sorts of different ways. last week, we heard the story of jesus appearing to the disciples in the upper room (john 20:19 31). he came through.
