Saw this upcoming reissue on amazon, haydn symphonies by bruno weil and tafelmusik on sony vivarte. i remember many years ago seeing very good reviews for the whole series. at that time, there was speculation that all the symphonies might be recorded, but i think these 7 cd’s are all that were done. Given the technical competence of the performers and the solid sound engineering from the label, i am surprised that listening to these haydn symphonies from tafelmusik and conductor bruno weil has been so unsatisfying. the tempi are peppy, the execution is mechanical with little trace of power, and the emotional range is shallow.
