Leading up to the book of deuteronomy, the israelites had spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness as they made their way to canaan, the land god promised to give them as a home. moses – moses was selected by god to lead the israelites to canaan. god spoke directly to moses and moses communicated god’s words and laws to the people. 3. blessings of children, food, and livestock: “the fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks” (deuteronomy 28:4). 4. protection and power against enemies: “the lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be. 2.
