Avoid Gm Fan Shroud Hitting Fan Video Test 1 Youtube Simple alignment of fan shroud is critical. if not aligned, fan will intermittently hit shroud. simple first vid, ignore. note most have 2 bolts in bottom ha. The variation of the noise frequency could be from the clutch engaging more or less. it sure sounds like the fan hitting the shroud to me. update took it to the dealer and showed the video to tech. he duplicate the noise by hand with the motor off. he said that it needs an entire fan and clutch assembly, new shroud and new blade.

Where are u located i have a shroud. thanks for the reply turna. it looks like my problem is the wrong radiator (too wide) and not the shroud. i'll have to modify it to fit the too wide radiator (pita) or get a modern aluminum radiator of the right size. another option is to find a 281 2 core for the upper and hope it lines up pretty close. I am using a gm shroud that is supposed to be correct for 69 396 but the fan blades are hitting the bottom of the shroud, in fact to be centered in the shroud would have to be lowered 1" and thats without the radiator support being adjusted. has anyone has this trouble before. ps the radiator is seated correctly in the support and the motor. But that is a v 8 the fan shroud is much shorter front to back on the v 8's as compared to the v 6 4.3 engine. apparently the v 6 engine sits on the same motor mounts as the v 8 engine and the radiator is in the same place so to make the fan work well gm extends the shroud to make up the difference in engine lengths. <g>.

New radiator from oreilly. new shroud from cc. original fan from a guy in gilbert. new brackets for the shroud from cc. can't seem to get shroud installed right? upon research on here i came up with motor mounts. i just checked them and they look fine. the shroud seems to be too far to the ds. the fan hits on the passenger side and at the top. the edges of the shroud that are supposed to reach.
